Challenges to electrochemical evaluation of nanometric sandwiched thin specimens using liquid cells designed for application in liquid-phase TEM corrosion studies

چکیده

Liquid-phase transmission electron microscopy (LP-TEM) has provided corrosion scientists with a unique opportunity to directly correlate nanoscopic morphological and compositional evolutions the corresponding electrochemical response of corroding thin TEM specimens. Electrochemical liquid cell designs are key components LP-TEM study towards an implementation which is representative for realistic exposure conditions bulk samples. However, application commercially available cells in studies brings along important shortcoming galvanic coupling effects due inevitable connection specimens Pt patterned electrodes. Here, we introduce approach fabricating alleviate current design challenge studies. Besides, present protocol preparing be electrochemically investigated our home-made cell. We finally confirm effectiveness this methodology by evaluating AA2024-T3 open-cell configuration through open circuit potential potentiodynamic polarisation measurements.
